Psalm 139: 15-16
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
Years ago the Lord showed me a picture . Just pause for a moment and let your imagination run wild as I share it with you.
Imagine a tapestry embroidered with all sorts of colours- some vibrant, some dark. These are the different seasons in your life.
The dark browns are definitely the messy times when life just doesn’t seem to be working out.
The blacks may be death and destruction, divorce or despair.
The vibrant colours are the exciting times; they speak of new life, new seasons, fresh starts.
Then there is one special thread; it’s colour is Gold.
Take a look at the back of the tapestry for a moment because Jesus wants to show you how he has made it. The golden thread starts at the very beginning and has never been snapped off or cut short. It runs continuously throughout. It represents all the plans the Lord has for us (and our children). Amazing plans, to prosper us and not to harm us (Jeremiah 29:11).
Sometimes we can’t see the golden thread on the face of the tapestry because it is covered up by the other stuff. We may have chosen to overlay it with thread of our own making, or maybe other people have added unwanted strands to our work.
I believe that this golden thread, visible or invisible runs through the tapestry of our lives- and the lives of our children. Do you ? Challenge yourself today. Choose to believe that God has the best for us and our children even if it doesn’t look that way today.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Sometimes Lord we cannot see the amazing things you are doing but we believe that you have great plans for us -and indeed for our children. Don’t let us be overshadowed by the darkness that sometimes invades our lives but open our eyes and help us to be those who see the unseen, who know that the Almighty Creator is working away for us behind the scenes.
